The Soulforge

Description

The Soulforge is the heart of the Dwarven race. It is here that the Dwarven gods made the Dwarven race by taking the waiting souls and granite and combining the two to fashion beings with the build and toughness of the mountains under which they were made. The Material Plane projection of this forge of creation is also known as the Soulforge; it is used to make weapons as well as to repair people.

The Soulforge can only be used by a Master Armorer or Weaponsmith with a Strength of 18 or higher; any non-expert who touches the artifact must make a Saving Throw versus death. A Master Armorer can use the Soulforge to add +2 (beyond any plusses normally attempted; maximum of a total of +5) to the protective power of any armor forged on the artifact and adds +10% to the chance of adding a special ability or power to the armor. When used by a Master Weaponsmith, the Soulforge adds +2/+2 to the weapons capability (beyond any plusses normally attempted; maximum of +5/+5) and adds +10% to the chance of adding a special ability or power to the weapon. All weapons made on the Soulforge automatically receive the benefit of Flaming at will (normal creatures take 1d6 extra damage from fire, undead and regenerating creatures take 2d6 extra damage from fire).

In keeping with its role in bringing the Dwarven race to life, the Soulforge can grant life to those who have died. It has the following powers when used by a Cleric who is also a Master Armorer or Master Weaponsmith:

Heal/10 per day
Raise Dead/10 per day
Resurrect/2 per day
Reincarnate/1 per day

However, the curative powers have a price; anyone who is being healed by the Soulforge must be laid upon the forge. Any non-Dwarf touching the Soulforge must make a system shock role or be polymorphed (Polymorph Any Object) permanently into a Dwarf. There are other potentially bad side-effects:

When Heal is used, the caster loses 1d4 POD for one week
When Raise Dead is used, the caster loses seven POD for one week
When Resurrect is used, the caster loses one POD permanently
When Reincarnate is used, the caster loses two POD permanently

The Soulforge may also be used once per year to make a Stone Golem. The only thing needed is granite - all other components and spells needed are provided by the Soulforge itself. This costs the creator one POD permanently.
